Microneedling

Achieve Glowing, Youthful Skin in Gurnee

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to address wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots, and enhance natural skin elasticity. It is also performed on clients seeking to improve the look of acne scars and stretch marks.

How Does It Work?

A microneedling device, equipped with a set of tiny needles, is applied to the target area to create tiny injuries in your skin. This mechanism stimulates the body’s healing response, sending a signal to produce collagen to heal and repair the injuries. Enhanced collagen smooths the skin and creates a more supple, rejuvenated look once the full results are achieved.

How Is It Performed?

Before our Gurnee microneedling expert performs the procedure, your skin or target areas will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is numb, the microneedling device is applied to the skin to stimulate collagen production. The procedure usually takes only about 45 minutes to complete. At Shape the Wave, we use the SkinPen Precision device for all microneedling treatments. Incidentally, the SkinPen Precision device is the only microneedling device in the United States that is FDA-approved.

What Is Recovery Like After Treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, your skin will appear pinkish or reddish, similar to a mild sunburn. You may also feel slight discomfort, itching, tenderness, or a light burning sensation. Your skin may feel a little tight, dry, or rough. These post-procedure effects will resolve in about three to five days following your microneedling treatment. After your treatment, collagen production will continue for weeks to months (4-6 weeks) as your skin heals and regenerates.
